COSMIC Flute Choir is a group of usually eight to twelve flautists who get together almost weekly and rehearse. The individual flautists come from different walks of life…..engineers, students, teachers, stay-at-home mothers, retirees, theater people, etc. The group meets on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-6:00pm.

COSMIC Flute Choir plays music that may use all C flutes or a combination of piccolos, C flutes, alto flute, bass flute, and contrabass flute. Occasionally we add other instruments for color or to fill out parts that would enhance our music. The music played is quite varied and often depends on where the performance is or the type of concert that is being presented.

COSMIC Flute Choir performs at the beginnings of the COSMIC Orchestra concerts and also has performed at other venues like Artsfest, Fairy House and Gnome Home Festival, and Garden in Lights all of which are at Annmarie Gardens, St. Clement’s Island Museum’s Christmas Open House, Calvert Marine Museum’s Christmas Walk, Sanford Concert Series at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and Cedar Lane Senior Living Community.

The different kinds of instruments played in the COSMIC Flute Choir range from the piccolo which is an octave higher than the concert C flute, the “normal” concert C flute, the alto flute which is pitched a fourth lower than the concert C flute, the bass flute which is one octave lower than the concert C flute, down to the contrabass flute which is two octaves lower than the concert C flute. Each type of flute has its own unique sound that it adds to the entire group.
