Last night, COSMIC held their second rehearsal with guest conductor Hunter Martin! Hunter will be with us for the rest of the month while COSMIC Music Director Will Esterling is away, and you will find him on stage next month guest conducting one of the pieces in our upcoming concert!
Hunter Martin is the Director of Bands at Leonardtown High School in St. Mary’s County, where he has taught piano as well as directed the LHS Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Big Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Pit Orchestra, and Pep Band for ten years. Under his direction, his concert ensembles have received excellent and superior ratings at festivals and adjudications, and his Marching Band, which in addition to performing in venues like Walt Disney World, has earned four consecutive Maryland State Championship titles. He also graduated from Frostburg State University in 2015, where he majored in Music Education and Music Performance as well as minored in Jazz Studies. He then graduated with a Master of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida in 2019.
Outside of school, Hunter plays tuba with the Calvert Brass Consortium as well as bass trombone in the pit orchestras for musicals at the Newtowne Players in Lexington Park, Maryland. He thoroughly enjoys sharing the gift of music with his students and is grateful for the opportunity to serve as guest conductor of COSMIC Symphony.

On behalf of all of COSMIC, we would like to offer our most heartfelt condolences today to Commissioner Eric Colvin and his family over the loss of Eric’s father, Scott Colvin. COSMIC fans may recall that Eric won our silent auction to guest conduct “Sleigh Ride” at our December 2023 concert, and he offered the opportunity as a Christmas gift to Scott. We were delighted to have him grace our stage and share our love of music. Please join us in keeping the Colvin family in your thoughts during this difficult time. ♥️
Remember Lisa Harman, soloist from last year’s season finale? You had to be there!
Last week, COSMIC president Karen Roberts and her husband Joe caught up with Lisa in San Diego after they disembarked Holland America Line’s Koningsdam while Lisa was preparing to board! Karen met Lisa when she was performing on a different cruise back in 2023, and the rest is history.
